  • Tranquil lochside location.
  • Woodburner.

This unusual large holiday house is the perfect tranquil country retreat set in beautiful surroundings on the shores of Loch Goil. The main attractions of the immediate area are walking, fishing and watching wildlife. There are many lovely walks to cater for those who like strenuous activity and breath taking views, through to a simple meander along the shore for those who prefer a more gentle stroll.

Perhaps surprisingly for such a seemingly remote area there is also a golf course, swimming pool, ice skating, pony trekking, boat hire, fishing tackle hire/purchase, indoor bowling, curling (in season), restaurants and pubs all within the glen. Day trips by car from Rhumhor can take in stunning Glen Coe, Oban (the gateway to the Isles), the architecturally distinguished town of Inveraray with its historic museum jail and fairytale castle, and the delightful fishing harbours of Tarbert and Crinan.

Rhumhor's primary appeal is the peace and beauty the area offers, but there is also more than enough in the local area to keep an active family busy during their holiday; or for those who just want to relax this is a perfect place to stay.

Rhumhor is a lovely Victorian house packed with rustic charm. Built in the 1890s in the days when the only access to Carrick Castle was via the sea, you can still get a sense of the remote tranquillity that isolation must have brought. Unusual modifications were made in the 1920s by architect Magnus Duncan, including two oriole/turret windows in the bedrooms at the rear further adding to the quirky character of the property.

The main sitting room is at the front of the house and has large comfortable sofas and a woodburning stove. There is also a smaller sitting room for those who want to sit away from the main group. This room contains a sofa bed allowing it to be used as a 5th bedroom where required. There is a bathroom across the hallway on the ground floor. The dining room at the front of the house seats 8-10. The recently installed kitchen is compact but well equipped with an electric oven, 4 ring electric hob, microwave, fridge freezer, bags of storage space, and a washer/dryer if you can't resist the temptation to wash clothes while on holiday!

There are four bedrooms on the first floor, two larger doubles at the front of the house with open views of the loch, a twin bedroom having one of the turret/oriole windows with views to the loch and hills, and a tiny double off the stairs with the other turret window.

The garden lawn runs along the front of the house bordered by mature shrubs, cherry and chestnut trees, and having views to the loch and surrounding hills. There is parking for 3 cars. The caretakers' apartment is semi-detached and is located to the rear of the property.
