The farm lies between the quiet villages of Glasserton and Monreith. Share the simple life tending the goats, sheep, cows and bees, or just relax and enjoy your holiday in tranquil surroundings.
Beautiful gardens, sandy beaches and spectacular rocky cliffs form a unique habitat for a variety of flora. The area is host to a multitude of wild animals and birds, peregrine falcon, red kite, barn owl, eagle, otter, seal, hare …The peninsula is steeped in natural, historical and archaeological interest, with cup and ring marked stones, standing stones and stone circles.
Low Craiglemine is near the coast on the Machars peninsula in Galloway and lies between the quiet villages of Glasserton and Monreith. You will be warmly welcomed by Kirsty (who is a trained and willing Bowen therapist) and Andy who is usually working on an interesting wood work project.
Their 300 year old renovated traditional stone cottage (which sleeps 6 plus cot), with beautiful locally produced wooden floors throughout and an open fire in the sitting/dining room, is fully equipped for comfortable self-catering holidays. It has a double and 2 twin bedrooms, is insulated, double glazed and heated throughout.
The Bothy, which was the traditional dwelling of travelling shepherds in days gone by, has been converted into a delightful small holiday home whilst retaining its traditional charm. The wooden beamed kitchen/living aream which has an open fire, is further enhanced by beautiful locally produced wooden flooring. The wood-lined loft bedroom (one double, one single bed) has a wonderful wiew of the Galloway Hills. The post and beam porch (constructed by Andy with locally grown oak) allows you to enjoy the sunshine.
Environmental concerns are at the heart of life at Low Craiglemine.
For over 18 years the farm has been run organically. The extended family curently has cows, calves, sheep, lambs, goats, bees, Nell and Dee the dogs, several farm cats and kittens and the hens and chicks.
A number of wild-life habitats have been created around the farm, including over 1km of hedging, 8 acres of predominately native trees planted over 10 yers ago, wetlands and ponds, and a small orchard established in 2001, all of which enhance the biodiversity of the farm.
Living willow creations are currently being explored - dens, seats, shelters.
Acheiving and maintaining a balance with nature takes time, and helping hands are welcome, but not obligatory!
