Recently restored, this delightful 17th century farmhouse lies within the Cranborne Chase AONB - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nestling under the old Fonthill Abbey beacon, the house is built in local stone with the Old Piggery just across the lawn.
This is self contained with an ensuite shower room and fully equipped kitchen. The one large studio bedroom has a 5' double bed and a single sofa bed. Although centrally heated, the wood burning stove provides a lovely focal point in colder periods.
We will pamper you on your arrival with tea, coffee or a glass of wine and can provide you with some basic groceries of your choice at cost. You can cater for yourself or enjoy some meals at excellent local pubs and restaurants, all within 6 miles.
Nearby is Salisbury with its ancient Cathedral and Museum, famously praised by Bill Bryson; Shaftesbury, a hilltop market town and its historic Gold Hill; Wardour Castle, a romantic ruin from the Civil War; prehistoric Stonehenge, a world heritage site; Longleat with its lions; Stourhead renowned for its exquisite 18th Century landscaped gardens and many other places of interest.
Tisbury, only 3 miles away, has a main line station direct to Waterloo, London and we can collect you if you wish to travel to us by train, though you should realise that we are right out in the middle of the country, ideal if you enjoy walking, cycling or riding! The A303 - the main route from London to the South West of England is 3 miles north of us. The Dorset coast is about 30 miles to the south.
At Cools Farm you can enjoy real country life. We are an organic working farm with a herd of Red Poll cattle, free ranging chickens, trout lake, meadows and ancient woodlands. The farmhouse has a pretty flower and kitchen garden and in the woodlands and pastures, a rich variety of wild flowers. You are quite likely to see grazing deer from your window.
There are some lovely long walks in the area or you can just take a gentle stroll across our fields, through our woods, and around the trout lake. The Wessex Ridgeway, a long distance path from Lyme Regis to Avebury crosses the farm.
If you enjoy tennis, there are two excellent courts available close by for hourly rental. If you want to play, give us some warning and we will book the courts for you.
Children are very welcome and will love all the animals we have here. We can provide a cot. A small dog is welcome in the Old Piggery but it must be well behaved and prepared to play with our Jack Russell!
