 Introduction

Springtime greetings to you all, from Britain Update at AboutBritain.com. Why not celebrate spring by taking a break in Britain's beautiful countryside?

Cornwall is an excellent place for a break at this time of year. The central southern coast of Cornwall is famous for its beautiful gardens and fine weather, so much so that it is known as the Cornish Riviera, stretching from the River Fowey in the east, to the River Fal in the west.

Spring is the ideal time to visit, blow away those winter cobwebs, avoid the tourist season and enjoy a relaxing break in this lovely area with its many fascinating attractions.

 Explore The Cornish Riviera

Cornwall is a great destination, whether you plan a long or short break. It has a long and interesting history of shipwrecks and piracy. There are sandy beaches, cliff-top walks and even palm trees - a testimony to its sub-tropical climate.

The picturesque villages of Mevagissey, Polperro, Looe and Fowey intrigue and charm visitors, each has its own story for you to discover.

The Eden Project

The St. Austell bay area is home to one of Britain's newest and most popular attractions; thousands of visitors come to the Cornish Riviera especially to see the fascinating Eden Project.

The Eden Project Built in a disused clay pit, the Eden Project comprises a Humid Tropics Biome, a Warm Temperate Biome and a large outdoor terraced landscape, with over 100,000 plants representing 5,000 species from many climatic zones around the world.

The Eden Project grew from Tim Smit's idea to "Promote the understanding and responsible management of the vital relationship between plants, people and resources, leading to a sustainable future for all".

Visit and see for yourself the exciting research and work being carried out there. Events happen throughout the year, many are free. Children will love their visit, with searches, quizzes and even something to take home! Even in wet weather, you can still enjoy visiting the indoor biomes.

A Cornucopia of Cornish Attractions

Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum tells of William Cookworthy's discovery of china clay in 1748. Here you can find out about the industry and how Spode, Wedgewood and Worcester porcelain all contain clay from Cornwall.

Tim Smit and his dedicated team restored the Lost Gardens of Heligan. This is a magical place, which all garden lovers should visit.

Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre Charlestown Shipwreck Heritage Centre is set in the delightfully unspoiled Georgian port. The Museum is home to the largest collection of artifacts and treasure recovered from shipwrecks in Britain - a powerful link to Cornwall's exciting history.

Pine Lodge Gardens and Nursery in St. Austell is a gem; home of the National Collection of Grevillea. If you are a plantaholic this garden is unmissable!

Carehays Castle and Gardens are at their best in spring, with daffodils flowering in profusion in the woods.

Carehays Castle and Gardens Carehays has large collections of Rhododendrons, Camellias and a National Collection of Magnolias. This is essentially a spring garden, open only from mid February to the end of May.

Cornwall is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year: Whenever you plan to travel, enjoy your trip to Cornwall!
