Take a step back in time when you explore our rich collections of rural, industrial and social life including many historic buildings that have been moved to the site. An interactive farm area with lamb feeding, egghatching and animals including Suffolk Punch horses, Large Black Pigs, Suffok sheep, Red Poll cattle, goats and rabbits.
The Museum estate
Set in 70 acres of lush East Anglian countryside, the Museum offers wonderful walks by the river stopping off on the way to view the mill, the windpump, and the Chapel.
There are shady places with picnic tables and a wonderful wooden adventure playground for the children to 'let off steam' by the steam engine exhibits in the Pole Barn and the Boby Crafts Building. Next door is the resident charcoal burner who is very happy to explain his rural craft to visitors, and the fully operative forge.Home Close
Down in Home Close, the Domestic Life Building contains illuminating displays of domestic life at the turn of the century. If you ever wondered how your Great Grandma
cooked her scones, here is an excellent opportunity to find out. The Museum provides a fascinating insight into 'the kitchen', 'the bedroom' and 'living room'. Meanwhile the Jack Carter Building (amongst other displays), houses a Victorian classroom complete with authentic desks, slates, chalk etc. Wedged between the Jack Carter Building and the Tithe Barn is a unique collection of Gypsy/Travelling carts and wagons, including a traditional Gypsy bender tent. There is also a new building housing items made by Ransomes of Ipswich froma steam traction engine
to lawnmowers and other items.
We have a Beer festival, a monthly farmers market, Traditional Music Day, Bonfire and Firework Night and other very popular events. ring for details or visit our website www.eastanglianlife.org.uk
