The Lighthouse, Scotland's first, dedicated, national centre for architecture and design, was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth in 1999, a renamed, £13 million conversion of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's 1895 Glasgow Herald newspaper office. [more...]

By Tube: Buchanan Street Station, exit to Buchanan Street and follow street signs to The Lighthouse. By Rail: Queen Street and Central Station are 5 minutes walk away. By Bus: Buchanan Street Bus Station provides links from within Scotland to Glasgow. By Air: Regular bus service from Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports to Buchanan Street Bus Station and Queen Street Station. Trains from Prestwick Airport terminate at Central Station. By Road: From Edinburgh follow the M8 and signs for the city centre. Enter the city via junction 19, heading onto Bothwell Street. At the end of Bothwell Street turn left onto Hope Street. Take the second right onto West George Street and then the second right onto West Nile Street. West Nile Street leads onto Mitchell Street, where The Lighthouse is clearly visible. From England, follow the M6, which becomes the M74. On the south side of Glasgow take the M73 then almost immediately the M8 into the city centre (be careful not to take the Glasgow East or South cut-offs). Follow the instructions as per Edinburgh for The Lighthouse. |
