Built around 1500, Dalston Hall's Pele Tower initially stood alone.

Various additions and extensions and were made in subsequent years.

In 1897, extensive refurbishment of the interior took place, together with the construction of the entrance side of the building.

This created 'a magnificent mansion surpassing perhaps even its ancient glories', to quote a leading antiquarian of the day.
