AboutBritain.com is one of the most popular British Tourism sites on the Internet. The site is owned and operated by Excelsior Information Systems Limited - a privately owned limited company (reg no. 2620327) incorporated in 1991.

AboutBritain.com's online hotel booking facilities are powered by Superbreak Mini-Holidays a market leader for short breaks in the UK.

Where are you based?

AboutBritain.com is based near the Scottish Border town of Galashiels, about 30 miles south of Edinburgh.

Why is my credit card charged to "Superbreak.com"?

Our online hotel booking partner, Superbreak Mini-Holidays, handle credit card transactions (using a secure server) on our behalf.

Can I book at short notice?

Yes! - You can even book on the day of travel. For same day reservations please call the Superbreak helpdesk on (0870) 043 4299 (national rate) from within the UK, or 44 1904 689 633 from outside the UK.

Do I pay a booking fee?

No - Superbreak also guarantee not to change the price after your booking has been confirmed.

What if I need to cancel?

A charge of 20% is made to cover administration charges provided you cancel up to the day before travel. Cancellations on the day incur 100% charges as your room is guaranteed for late arrival. Theatre inclusive bookings incur 100% charges from the confirmation of the booking.

What if I am arriving late at the hotel?

Your booking is guaranteed for late arrival but it is always worth calling the hotel to advise them if you are going to be very late. At some of the smaller hotels you may have the owner waiting up for you!

What can I expect for dinner when it is included in the price?

Dinner is normally 3 course based on a Table D'hote menu i.e. a selection of meals of the day. A La Carte meals will also be available but a supplement would then probably apply. All Superbreak hotels will offer a vegetarian meal but the choice may be restricted. Any special dietary requirements should be advised at time of booking.

What room types are available?

Hotels in the UK offer single, double (i.e. 1 double bed) and twin (2 single beds) bedrooms. Family rooms for three or four are generally available and these are normally either twin or double rooms with extra child or sofa beds. It is rare for hotels to offer rooms to accommodate either 3 or 4 adults.

What is a Midweek single supplement?

All Superbreak prices show the price of sharing a twin or double room. Single supplements are applied by hotels to reflect the price they charge for a single room and is added to the adult price. This calculation is done for you when you book. If there is a single supplement applicable, you will see it detailed on the booking page, and it will be included in the grand total. 'Midweek' is Monday to Thursday inclusive. Some hotels alternatively charge week-round single supplements. So if you want a single at a weekend look for hotels that only charge a supplement midweek.

Do I get a larger room if I pay the single supplement?

Unfortunately not. The price charged is for a single room although some hotels do allocate larger rooms for the same rate.

Children are travelling in our party do we get a discount?

Yes - Normally children are free if sharing with 2 adults or half price in their own room. 'Free' children do not have meals included and these must be paid for at the hotel.

Why is full payment taken at the time of booking?

Full payment is taken at the time of booking in order to guarantee your room against the price you booked at, and to ensure the room is kept for you in the event of a late arrival. As a third party (tour operator) Superbreak also guarantees full payment to the hotel.

How do I get to the hotel?

The hotel address and telephone number will be provided on screen after your confirmation of the booking. This information will also be provided on the email and postal confirmation that will be sent to you. Each UK hotel entry has a printable map to assist in planning your route.

What's included in the price?

A complete price breakdown can be obtained by clicking the "obtain price" button after checking availability of your chosen hotel. All prices include service and VAT.

Can AboutBritain.com arrange wedding receptions?

Unfortunately no, these must be organised and arranged with the hotel directly.

What if I need to change my reservation?

An administration charge of Ł15.00 will be made each time the booking is amended, unless the value of the booking increases. A 100% charge will be made for amendments made on the day of travel. Theatre inclusive bookings incur 100% charges from the confirmation of the booking.

What if I need special facilities during my stay?

If you have any special needs please contact the Superbreak helpdesk on (0870) 043 4299 (national rate) from within the UK, or 44 1904 689 633 from outside the UK, or email admin@superbreak.com before making a booking. The helpdesk will then make the booking for you and pass on any special requirements to the hotel for the likes of wheelchair accessible rooms, non-feather bedding and special dietary needs.

Yes - AboutBritain.com and Superbreak use secure servers to encrypt and protect all communication of personal details and credit card information. Our secure servers are authenticated and certificated by Thawte.com.
