I invested in a bird feeding station a few months ago. I love sitting on my window seat watching all the different birds feeding. However the grey squirrels have discovered this free supply of food and they are costing me £££.I know that you can get a "squirrel collar" for the feeding station but none of our local stores have them. We have just today spent £25 on seeds and fat balls that'll only last a week with the squirrels appetite Wee Mixu loves to bark against the Magpies and wood pidgeons picking on the scrapes underneath it.Wish he would learn to frighten off the squirrels.Never mind, its all for a good cause, saving our natural birds!

BTW Ron you have a PM

I love the way that so many premises with thatched rooves seem to take on an almost-human face aspect'

Or am I anthropomorphising - again.

One question, but.

How often do such rooves have to be replaced ??

I would guess that a lot would depend upon the quality of the product, as well as weather and other aspects.

Are such rooves effective so far as heat-retention is concerned. No doubt they must present a fire-hazard once they dry out.

Is all the old thatch removed and replaced totally with new stuff or is new thatch just laid over the existing product.

Good questions, perhaps we could ask Margaret THATCHER, if you'll pardon the pun .

Just remember: A pun is the lowest form of wit - when somebody else thinks of it first..................

And, No, I don't know who uttered those wise words.

Ogden Nash, perhaps.

OKAY name the one building in London with a thatched roof?
And why are there no others?

I agree with Clare.

I love the "faces" on thatched roofs. That is one of the reasons I am attacted to them

I don't know about the building [Clare may well be right] but I should imagine that the risk of fire and/or vermin would be enough reasons to cause such a prohibition.

Yes Clare is right thatch was banned after the 1666 Great Fire.
The Globe is the only building in London with a thatch roof.
