Argggh, I'm going to get called a Troll now but I really was just passing because I want to ask a question. And I really am from the Lake District so I'll and help. It depends on what you want to do. The Lake District is really quite small (for someone who has lived in Oz). I'd go to all the usual places like Ambleside and Coniston because it will be quiet at this time of year. But from there, weave your way through Torver, look for signs to take you to Ulverston, and through the back of Backbarrow (Thomas the Tank Engine), Lakeside, Finsthwaite and then on towards the back roads to the Lakes. You'll happen along the most beautiful scenery and backwater to Windermere and then onto Rydal and Grasmere. Have a lovely time!
