The other week the weather looked half-sharp so I had a quick look on my English Heritage map and planned a trip in and around Derbyshire.

I hooked up my satnav which is a great device for taking you on all sorts of roads you wouldn't normally drive down! At one point I was going down a single track road and a very large tractor was clearly speeding around a corner as to miss me he had to drive right in to the side of a hedge!

I began my day out at Croxden Abbey with fantastic sunshine! The site is free to visit but the gates don't open until 10am which was the time that I arrived at the site so it was perfect timing!

As I was in the area I hopped back in my car and drove to Sandback to take a quick look at a couple of crosses, it was unlikely that I would be in the exact area again so it was now or never!!

I then took a leisurely drive via all sorts of strange roads courtesy of my satnav and ended up at a fantastic place called Arbor Low Stone Circle which is about 4,500 years old!! There is also a Barrow there as well which is part of the short walk you can do. You have to go through private property to get to the English Heritage site which they charge £1 for doing so, so a cheap visit!

I ended my tour by going to Hob Hurst's House, which isn't actually a house but a burial site...

I was very, very lucky with the weather!

Most of the day was blue sky with the odd cloud here and there.
