Edinburgh to Belfast is just a 30 minute flight.
40 minutes by bus into Belfast City.
Over all we are talking around five hours.
I used easyjet !
Driving and taking the ferry would be quicker I would think.
Scottish Citylink runs a bus service between Belfast's Europa Buscentre and various Scottish cities.
National Express for English and Welsh cites.

Belfast is a nice city: easy to walk around; most things easy to walk to.
I stayed in the Travelodge which is very close to the bus station behind the Europa Hotel (the most bombed hotel in the U.K) so a short walk had me at my home for three nights. A rucksac on my back and I was soon out and about in the lovely sunshine. In about three minutes I had found city hall with the Belfast Wheel next to it, which I did go up in to take in the view.
A great deal of construction is going on at the Titanic Quarter a whole new waterfront taking shape. Shopping malls: Botanic Garden; Waterfront, Ulster Museum, which was closed for renovation when I was there :-(.
Political/religous murals on walls its has to be Belfast.

I spent my last day taking a bus tour to Londonderry/Derry Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant's Causeway (the most visited part in N.I.) Northern Island is beautiful very much like Scotland. A lovely pint of Belfast Ale in the Crown Liquor Saloon was good. It had to be for £3.10p a pint.

Weather was good in the main I have come back with a light tan. Sunshine and showers and when it showered it poored :-( and back to blue sky again.
It did make for good lighting for photography.

Tour ended back at the Europa; bus to Belfast International and home by 11pm. Four days holiday for around £250. :-).

Oh I should mention the Titanic was fine when it left Belfast: So a sign said where (at the Thomson Dock) it had set sail in 1912. ;-).

Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009,

Belfast Northern Ireland Festival will be host to the "Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge' this August 13th -16th.
The flotilla of Tall Ships will be berthed alongside Queens Quay, Abercom Basin and Donegal Quay.

Tall Ships Parade of Sail, will leave Belfast on Sunday 16th August. Best viewing areas, will be along County Down and County Antrim Coastline.

I should be able to catch sight of ships when they leave Boston. I will have to follow the progress, sounds like fun.

Ian - are you posting pic of your trip to Belfast?? I have seen many pictures of the Giants Causeway and would love your impression of them.
