My advice is to try and visit as many of the free attractions as you can, such as Tate Modern, Science Museum, Changing the Guard and Westminster Abbey. There's lots of things happening all year round in London's South bank; free events, exhibitions, debates and festivals. Try this website - http://www.londonisfree.com/

If you're set on visiting the attractions with admission fees then work out if it's worth investing in a London Pass. These aren't cheap but if you cram as many of the 50 free attractions in as you can, you should save money.

Also, if you collect tesco clubcard points, these can be exchanged for some great days out such as Kensington Palace, London Zoo, Tower of London and many more.

If you've got any suggestions let others know about them here.

ZSL London Zoo a great day out for all the family

I think London Zoo is well worth the visit for anyone coming to London with children of any age. There is a family ticket at £44.60 and there is plenty to do and see.
With Easter coming up and the launch of their new "Animal Adventure" Children's Zoo there are lots of new things to see and do.

Here is a voucher link if you are interested:

The are also promoting Keeper for a day and adopt an animal - what a fun thing to do, an ideal gift.

They are also running a super competition with a first prize of an 8 day family safari trip to Kenya.

Unless the London Zoo has been updated in the last 7 years, I really don't think it is worth the visit. I found it old and antiquated. I suppose young children who have never seen a zoo would find it fun.

Marie

That was why I suggested a visit or a revisit as they are just about to launch a new Children's Zoo area called Animal Adventure

see the attached link:

I also found a discount voucher:

Beyond just looking at the animals there are loads of interesting conservation projects happening and if you can travel further a visit to Whipsnade is well worth it.

Have a great day out.

Katies advice is to take one of the 'Big Bus Sightseeing Tours' while in London. We recently took the Tour and not only did we get a commentary of the London attractions. But our Ticket was for 24hours so we could hop on and off as many times as we liked.

Also our Big Bus Tour extra feature and value for money was the River Thames Cruise this was included in the overall price of about 25 pounds each . We took a boat from Westminster Bridge down to Greenwich Village, and relaxed with onboard refreshments at a reasonable cost...mm!! Tea was magic...as was the coffee.

Now considering your Big Bus Tour ticket is valid for 24 hours that has to be one extra value for money trips around London.
cheers and enjoy your London trip...Katie

We most likely will do the big bus tour. It is a great way to get an overview of the city, plus I would love to go on the river again. I finally took a boat from Greenwich to the Embankment 2 years ago, it's really a great way to travel.

Hi Marie,
No matter how many times I visit London City, the best way to get some fantastic photographs is from the top of the 'Open Bus'..and the riverboat Trip....aaahh!! truly brilliant and again it gives you a chance to view London from the Thames while relaxing .

Each time we visit a major City I always check out if they also have the open top Bus Tours, York City was another of my favourite places.
A packed lunch some light refreshments lots of films for your camera, and a stout pair of shoes and a trillion memories of a great time.

Also its amazing what hidden Gems you find to capture on camera.

As the weather improves no excuses for not getting out and about..but then again I am a hardy traveller, so a spot of rain is no problem...Just looking forward to enjoying the rest of 2010. cheers Katie
