I noticed that on the AB home page, it said Daphne Du Maurier was born 101 years ago today. Has anyone read her novels? I read all of them. My favourites had to be Jamaica Inn and My Cousin Rachel.
If any of you want to be transported to the days of shipwreckers, black market gold and English treason and treachery, read her books. For her time she was a captivating novelist.
I used to have a whole collection of leather bound books written by her but when we were young parents, we were poor so we sold them alas to pay a gas bill.
Now I'm well off and got nothing to read. [X(]

I am fairly well-read but I have not read any of her novels. Rebecca is one of my favourite movies though!

I love her books. Try Frenchman's Creek or Jamaica Inn. One of my favourites was The House on the Strand. Probably a lesser work written in the 60's, during the time when the younger generation was experimenting with mind altering substances. It is about a man who takes a substance that lets him travel back in time, although his body stays in the present. I'm a sucker for anything to do with time travel. There is a big DuMaurier festival being held now or some time soon of Fowey, Cornwall, I think.

I've never read any of her books, but 'Don't Look Now' is a brilliant film!
