We arrived in Rye, after an uneventful journey, just after Midday. Our hotel is nice and rather quaint and the food, having sampled lunch, is very good.

There is a cold wind but some sunshine and the occasionally (heavy) shower. We have had a look at the outside of Marie's cottage - looks quaint.

We are planning to go out for the day tomorrow and then try to find Marie when we get back. Once we meet up we plan to add to this thread.

See you all later.

If my clock is anything to go byYe, you and Mrs. Buffer have a bit less than 90 minutes until Marie arrives.

Hope somebody wears a blooming big red rose for recognition

I took a couple of photographs yesterday (Monday) and here they are.

One from our hotel bedroom window:

and one in Mermaid Street:

Today, Tuesday, Amanda and I went to Hastings for the day and here are a couple of photographs I took whilst we were there.

One of the ruins of Hastings Castle:

and one of the old town from up near the castle:

We got back to Rye about five o'clock and called in to Marie's cottage. She said "Hi everyone from my 15th century cottage"
I don't think she's trying to make anyone envious.

We chatted for about an hour and we went back to our hotel to let Marie crash into bed early after her rather long journey. She is coming up to our hotel tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and we are all going off on a jaunt - Bodiam Castle first.

There will now be a short intermission for you all to work up a bit of envy and I'll try and provide an update after our trip together.

Barry, those pics are beautiful. Thank you for posting them.

Marie, Have I told you lately that I hate you? LOL! Just Kidding! I am soooo jealous

I will think of your great trip as I strip disgusting wallpaper off almost every wall, nook and cranny in our new house.

I will be checking the thread. Have fun!

LOL, Shannon, LOL!!!!!!!!

Want to know how badly I feel about this? I had the opportunity to go with her and declined, with much regret, because, I too, am looking to move, Shannon, and thought it prudent to save my vacation time this year for house hunting and actual moving. However, there isn't much on the market I have seen I am even remotely interested in
so have realized this is going to take a while. I am now dope slapping myself for not going and even teared up a bit when I saw these pictures Barry so kindly posted. It's been a tough winter for me and the crowning glory came just last week when I became the lucky recipient of credit card fraud originating FROM THE UK!!!!!!! Some
as#&%le must have hacked into a site and got hold of card numbers, which we used extensively on our trips past. $3,200.00 later, AMEX is doing an investigation but someone in Glasgow was spending on my dime. Luckily, I am not responsible for the charges but what a kick in the arse that a country I love so much is responsible for ripping me off. Well, not the country but you know what I mean......anyhow, Marie already heard my rant about it and it caused her to leave the country!

I have not been to the UK in 3 years now and, ever since those knuckleheads have started taunting us with their trip photo's, the pain has gotten worse!
I have learned my lesson and the next time someone asks me to go to the UK with them, I will stop being so disciplined and throw caution to the wind!

Good luck with that wallpaper, Shannon....at least you found something to buy you liked!

And here is one of those knuckleheads reporting back.

Sorry to hear about you brush with fraud Lisa. At least you haven't lost anything. However, back to the torture.

Marie walked up to our hotel yesterday morning and we all leaped in the car and shot off to our first call - Bodiam Castle. What a lovely picturesque castle that is.

Here we all are at the top of one of the towers:

We went to Battle Abbey after that and then on to Birling Gap:

Got to rush off now - breakfast calls.

Great Photos! Again, I am soooo jealous!

Will be checking back for more.

Lisa: OMG, that is horrible! I have thankfully never have been victim to anything like that and hopefully never will. Thank goodness AMEX is not holding you responsible but still...the grief!

OK, now the wallpaper is off but how on earth do I get off this glue????

Shannon...I forgot to comment on your glue problem. How do you remove the glue? Hire someone else to do it, which is always my first choice or get one of those steamers and steam it off. Messy, but it does work. There may be some nice, new chemical to use also so call a wallpaper store....they always have the answers!
You are so brave to attempt this!

I am so upset that you all \hate me. One more time Lisa and ;you won't get your tea!

Today was our day for hiking. we headed out from Rye to Camber Castle. the castle orginally was on the coast but now is in the middle of a field - lovely walk with lots of new born lambs So cute. \on returning to Rye, we climbed up the tower of St. ~Mary's church. The view from the top is incredible. (Barry will have to post pics ) Amanda and I poked around some junk aka antique stores. I did get my cream tea.

ta ta for now

Uh oh....I forgot about the tea! Who's your buddy, Marie?

Actually, Marie, I should be in Ireland this week because the lovely tint of jealous green in my complexion would match the scenery quite well.......
I won't say have a great time because it's painfully obvious you have outdone us all this year! I'm guessing the exchange rate doesn't mean a whole lot right now, does it?
See you when you return!

Here I am again to post pics! Those of you who are subject to bouts of envy avert your eyes now.

As Marie has said we went up the church tower today.

The stone tower in this photograph is shown below in close-up:

and here is Amanda and Marie in heaven (well the nearest they're likely to get):

This is probably my last posting of this trip as we go back home tomorrow.

I'll perhaps add some more when we get back.

We are now back home.

We saw Marie, she walked up to our hotel, over a cup of tea at breakfast yesterday morning. She was all togged up for legging it across the marshes to Winchelsea - her planned walk for the day. Weather was nice but apparently there were some showers forecast for later. She had her waterproofs with her so she should be Ok. We won't know any more of her trip until she gets home.

I'm going to start a new trip report about our trip in more detail - watch this space and prepare to be bored to tears. Don't say you weren't warned.

Marie...did you get caught in the tube strike?

There hasn't been another mention of it since the topic was originally posted two weeks ago. I know you said the trip into Rye was slow. Sorry that happened, but hope it was all only weather related.

Lisa...admit it...you, too, are with me in pushing/hugging Marie off that tower, aren't you She just looks TOO DARN HAPPY

Spill the beans in another topic, Shannon...what kind of house did you get?
