The above link takes you to photos.

I had a car for a test drive over two days so I went and played tourist.
My first stop was near-by at Craigmillar Castle.
Craigmillar is one of three Castles you can visit in Edinburgh.
Little France, named because of Mary Queen of Scots entourage
lived here, is where to find it. This is now where 'The Main Hospital' for Edinburgh is to be found.
Off Dalkeith Road.

Dirleton Castle east of Gullane west of North Berwick is a true old castle.
Within its grounds is to be found lovely gardens.
Outwith the castle is a quant village green.
The village is very picturesque as is the castle.
Its on the A 198 road.

Rosslyn Chapel near Roslin 7 miles south of Edinburgh.
Roslin castle is a ruin very little is to be seen now, but was seen near the end of the movie The Da Vinci Code. And if you have seen the Da Vince Code you have seen the castle.
Rosslyn Chapel: Its believed that Oliver Cromwell ordered that the Chapel not be touched. Its well worth seeing and due to the book and film is very popular. Many great people from history have visited Rosslyn Chapel over the years.
Take the tour on the hour its worth it!
And you can take a walk/hike when there.
Edinburgh Crystal can be seen being made in near-by Penicuik.

Ian, that reminds me when we had an exchange school pupil from France and trying to amuse him.

Mhairi and the foster daughter were going on the trip and because there was a shortage of boys places, we were asked if we would take a boy as we had 2 boys in the family .

None of us spoke French and so the week looked bleak. Then I decided to go to the caravan in East Lothian and do the works.

Firstly was Dirlton castle which they all loved and then to the pub for lunch and onto the castle at North Berwick, Tantallon castle. That is amazing. It looks as if the fourth wall overlooking the sea has crumbled, but the rooms of the castle are inside the three walls. They all enjoyed that as well.

The next day we went to the Myrton(?) car musium near East Fortune. I bought them all the quiz sheets and had a good 2 hours peace and quiet while they tried to find the answers to such questions as "How many wheels has the 1941 **** trooper carrier has?". ok the answer is 6 road wheels and the spare and steering wheel. I had a prize for the winning score and consilation prizes for all the other 6 kids.

Then we were off to the East fortune Air Museium , where Concorde is now at, and it's a very" hands on" musium and the kids fair enjoyed it.

The next day, we took in the East Lothian Nature Trail. It was the day of the Under the Rocks. The Scouts showed us how to find living things under the rocks and pool beds in the Longniddrie shore, crabs, hermit crabs, prawns, mussels etc and we had a few hours hunting out our specimens.

By this time I was exhaused enteraining 7 kids bewteen 12 and 15 , and happyily drove them home, only to discover that the next day, our wee French guest had a birthday the next day. OK he did have a birthday party with all 50 French visiters plus the 51 Hostees.'in my house.

The next day was the trip back to France and of cource off went Mhairi and the foster child. What did they do with the family?
They went to a school football match that the wee french student was playing in........

It is obvious that East Lothian has a variety of different tourest interests.I would recommend everything that I've mention
Now to do West Lothian....

Excellent written tour, Ian Thanks for taking me there!

However...scaffolding at Rosslyn???? Yep, I know it's there for a purpose...but not during my vacation

Hi, Maery...haven't heard from you in a while! Welcome back Your time with the foreign student provided him with memories that'll last a lifetime. What a grand itinerary you put together....enough intellectual stimulation presented in a fashion that the children probably had no idea they were learning something

Visitors to Edinburgh in Scotland, truly must make the short 7mile journey to view Rosslyn Chapel....this place is breathtaking, and the history and tales that go with it are truly amazing.

And if scaffolding is in place, go to the shop and purchase a DVD showing a host of historical brilliant details regarding the Chapel....cheers Katie
