The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery is closed for redevelopment. You can find out more about our plans on our website. The Gallery is due to re-open in 2012/13. General enquires and collection enquires will be taken on 01234 211222 weekdays 9.00am - 5.00pm

  • The Cecil Higgins Art Gallery is situated in an attractive setting beside Castle Gardens and the River Ouse.
  • The Victorian Mansion is a recreation of an 1880s home including the world-famous Gothic room containing works by William Burges
  • There are changing exhibitions of watercolours, prints, drawings from the Gallery's collection which includes artists such as Gainsborough, Cotman, Constable, Turner, Burne-Jones, Sutherland, Freud, Durer, Rembrandt, Picasso and Warhol. (Visitors wishing to see particular works are advised to telephone the Gallery beforehand)
  • The re-displayed Decorative Art Gallery features ceramics, glass, silver & textiles from the 17th to mid 20th centuries including William Burges, Whitefriars Glass, Arts & Crafts, Tiffany and Edward Bawden.
  • The history of lace-making can be seen through a comprehensive survey of East Midlands and international lace industries. The Gallery also houses the world famous Thomas Lester Collection of Bedfordshire Maltese Lace.
  • Access - ramp to building, flat access on ground floor, lift to first floor, disabled toilet and wheelchair available on request.
  • Self-service coffee lounge and Gallery shop
