Located in the village of Peldon, close to historic Colchester, Mersea Island and the North Essex coast, Sampton Wick Bed and Breakfast offers a warm friendly welcome in beautiful traditional surroundings.
Built between 1330 and 1360, the house is Grade II listed and contains a wealth of period features, including low timbered ceilings (in some places very low!), uneven floors and beautiful working fireplaces.
The garden is large and secluded and includes a boating lake (with a boat) and summer house - just right for relaxing on warm summer evenings
Accommodation
We have 2 double rooms and 1 twin room available throughout the year.
All rooms have wash basins and tea/coffee making facilities. Unfortunately en-suite facilities hadn't been invented in the 14th Century so we provide some lovely fluffy bathrobes for the short trip to the bathroom!
We operate a no smoking policy in the house. You are, of course, free to smoke anywhere outside, except the hay barn (for obvious reasons).
Local Area
Sampton Wick is conveniently situated for a wide range of leisure activities, being only 50 minutes by train (Colchester North) from central London, and a 5 minute drive to the coast.
The nearby town of Colchester (7 miles) is the oldest recorded town in Britain and offers a wealth of Roman history. Mersea Island is a fascinating island connected to the mainland by a causeway road called the Strood, that is flooded at high tide several days of the month. The small town of West Mersea has a busy seaside and sailing community. The village of East Mersea offers a quieter pace with wide open views, country parks and bird watching facilities. Mersea is well worth a visit.
