  • The delightful Briardene Guest House dates from the 1880s and retains much of it's original character; ideally located in Windermere, central Lake District, close to Lake Windermere and Windermere specialist shopping.

    The guest house is family run, offering guests a high standard of comfort with a warm friendly atmosphere.

    For the comfort and safety of our guests, Briardene Guest House is exclusively non-smoking.

    The house is built from local slate and inside it retains many original features including, an elegant pitch pine staircase, stained glass windows and coving.

    Briardene has central heating throughout and private off-road parking is also provided for all our guests.

    Our breakfasts will set you up for your day in the Lake District, with a buffet style breakfast of cereals, fresh fruit, grapefruit segments and fruit juices available; we also offer a menu which provides a wider choice, including full English, Vegetarian or Continental.

    There are a number of picturesque walks that can be followed from Briardene, including the spectacular view from Orrest Head, remembered as A.W.Wainwright's first inspirational walk, leading him to a life of fell-walking.

    We have three tastefully decorated double en-suite bedrooms, all furnished with king-size beds:

    The first is our 4-Poster Room, which offers that something a little special with it being our largest room; it is beautifully furnished with a 4-poster king-size bed, reclaimed hand-carved pine furniture, a sitting area, flat screen TV with DVD player, fridge, iron and board, plus all the normal extras, together with a larger en-suite offering an enclosed steam/power shower.

    Our next room is our 'Victorian Room', which has a lovely Victorian style brass king-size bed; although this has a smaller sitting area, it still has all the extras offered in the above room, with reclaimed hand-carved furniture, together with a double size en-suite with an enclosed power/steam shower.

    Our last room is our Deluxe Attic Room, which is furnished with a Victorian brass king-size bed, sitting area plus en-suite bathroom and shower; this room also includes a flat screen TV with DVD player, fridge, iron and board, bathrobes and bathsheets.

    Directions
    Directions from M6 Motorway:
    From the South
    Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 and follow the A591 to Windermere.
    When you reach the village turn left opposite the 'Windermere Hotel', where it says 'Town Centre'.
    Follow the one-way system and after you leave it, take the second left into 'Ellerthwaite Road' (Ellerthwaite Lodge Hotel on corner) and we are the 2nd house on the right.

    From the North
    Leave the M6 motorway at junction 40 and follow the A66 in the direction of Keswick.
    After about 1 mile, turn left at the roundabout towards Windermere. Follow the signs to Windermere, passing alongside Ullswater and through Glennridding, then over the Kirkstone Pass and down into Windermere.
    You will reach Windermere at a mini-roundabout where you turn left. after about 1/2 mile take a right turn into the town centre. (Rockside Guest House on far right hand side corner).
    Then join the one way system and follow the directions above.
    - Or you can stay on the A66 and head straight for Keswick and join the A591 at the top of the Lakes and head straight for Windermere.
