    Smugglers Cottage was featured in Home & Gardens magazine in 1965. Many of the beams are from the timbers of the Spanish galleon wrecked at St Alban's Head. On the curving beams of the longe doorway, the ship's plumbline has been used and, because of the salt absorbed from the sea all those many years ago, the wood is now as hard as ebony.

    The 4oo year old cottage derived its name from being for many years the only dwelling place on the heath and woodland and in consequence a natural way station for smugglers who had landed contraband at Poole Harbour, or nearby, and wished to make their way inland. Here in the comfortable, well concealed building they would sort and share, quarrel and fight, drink and laugh without detection. Smugglers at Ferndown was one of a number of such places around the coast.

    At Smugglers Cottage you can expect a warm welcome from Roger and Victoria Garlick, staying in one of the uniquely furnished cottage bedrooms and eat from our extensive, sumptuous breakfast menu of local produce. All bedrooms are of the highest standard and have central heating and include a tea and coffee tray, trousers press and television. We have a car park at the rear of the cottage.

    £57.95 for a twin or double en-suite room to include full English breakfast for two.

    £54.95 for single occupancy for a double or twin en-suite room to include full English breakfast for one.

    £54.95 for a single en-suite room to include full English breakfast for one.

    There is a £10.00 supplement for either just a Friday or Saturday night only.

    We charge a £7.00 supplement for a small child sharing parents' room.

    We are open all year round, except for Christmas and the New Year.

    Smugglers Cottage can be found just off the A31.

    Follow the A31 from Ringwood going straight over the first three roundabouts.
    On the fourth roundabout the A31 turns off to the right however carry straight on to the fifth roundabout and we are just off the second turning on the right hand side.
