Directions
From the M5 at Exeter:
Leave the M5 at junction 31 signposted A30 to Okehampton. About 17 miles along the A30 is Whiddon Down Junction (formerly called Merrymeet). Turn left here onto the A382. In about ¼ mile the A382 turns to the left at a small roundabout, signposted toward Moretonhampstead. You will see on the left the stone with the sign for Dartmoor National Park. This road goes steadily downhill between two nice beech hedges. At the bottom of the hill, (about 1½ miles), there is a sharp left hand bend, and just before the bend you turn right, signposted to Murchington and Gidleigh. (There is a small red post box mounted on a pole at this corner)

* In half a mile turn right, by a white house (Monks Withecombe Gallery), the road is clearly signposted to Murchington. In 400 Yards you cross a small crossroads. Then take the next turning on the left, signposted to Murchington, and St. Johns is the first house on the right, just over the brow of the hill. Turn right inside the gate, there is plenty of room to park and turn.

From Newton Abbot:
Take the A382 Northwards through Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead. Pass on your left the turnings for Chagford at Easton Cross and Sandy Park. Look out for a very sharp left turning signposted to Murchington and Gidleigh. (There is a small red post box mounted on a pole at this corner) Take this turning , then proceed as above. *

From Chagford:
Leave the square via Mill Street, (between Lloyds TSB Bank and Bowden's Stores). Keep right at a fork in the road (signposted Gidleigh). Continue down the hill to the crossroads and turn right. Cross a narrow stone bridge (River Teign) and continue up hill. Ignore the first sign on the left for Murchington, continue uphill and bear left at a fork in the road, then take the next left. Turn left again and St. Johns is the first house on the right, just over the brow of the hill. Turn right inside the gate, there is plenty of room to park and turn.

From Cornwall:
Follow the A30 Eastwards, Pass Okehampton, and about nine miles after Okehampton you will find Whiddon Down Junction (formerly called Merrymeet). Turn right here onto the A382, and in about ¼ mile the A382 turns left at a small roundabout. Follow this road steadily downhill about 1½ miles until you encounter a sharp left hand bend, and just before the bend turn right, signposted to Murchington and Gidleigh. (There is a small red post box mounted on a pole at this corner). Take this turning, then proceed as above. *
