Following a major redevelopment programme, Ascot Racecourse will reopen for the Royal Meeting on Tuesday 20th June 2006, which will be the official opening day. Royal Ascot will run from Tuesday 20th June to Saturday 24th June. There are 19 fixtures in all on the Ascot racing calendar in 2006, highlights include Royal Ascot in June, De Beers Diamond Day on Saturday 29th July, Shergar Cup on 12th August, September Saturday on 23rd of the month and six Winter jump meetings.
Ascot, founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, is one of the world's greatest racecourses and the best racecourse in the UK.
It was while Queen Anne was out riding on the edge of Windsor Great Park that she noticed a natural 
clearing near the villge of East Cote, now called Ascot. Queen Anne ordered a course to be laid out 'for horses to gallop at full stretch' and so the Royal Racecourse was born. The first four-day Royal Meeting was held in June 1768, changing to a five day meeting in 2002, the Queen's Golden Jubilee year. Today Ascot Racecourse stages the highest quality flat and jump racing throughout the year and is undoubtedly the best racecourse in the world.

Diamond Day
The sparkling jewel in Ascot's summer is De Beers Diamond Day - a prestigious sporting and social event,
with £1 million in prize money on offer. The centrepiece on Diamond Day is the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the most important middle-distance race of the season in the UK. The race is a showdown of champion horses, if you aren't able to attend Royal Ascot, come to Diamond Day - the best raceday in the UK during the summer months.September Saturday
This race meeting is the climax of Ascot's flat season and features the most important mile long race in Europe, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. There are four family days at Ascot in 2006, 30th July, 12th August, 24th September and 16th December. Free entertainment is on offer on all these days including face painters, jugglers, clowns, quizzes, treasure hunts, behind the scenes tours. Jump Racing
As well as being home to the very best flat racing action, Ascot also stages six days of breathtaking jump racing from October to December. The jump season at Ascot features some of the most important races in the calendar, in particular, the racing held on Saturday 18th November.
