Ascot, founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, is one of the world's greatest racecourses and the best racecourse in the UK.
It was while Queen Anne was out riding on the edge of Windsor Great Park that she noticed a natural
clearing near the villge of East Cote, now called Ascot. Queen Anne ordered a course to be laid out 'for horses to gallop at full stretch' and so the Royal Racecourse was born. The first four-day Royal Meeting was held in June 1768, changing to a five day meeting in 2002, the Queen's Golden Jubilee year. Today Ascot Racecourse stages the highest quality flat and jump racing throughout the year and is undoubtedly the best racecourse in the world.
Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot is internationally renowned as a sporting and social occasion, where tradition, pageantry, fashion and style all meet in a glorious setting. The five day meeting provides a unique opportunity to be part of this memorable event, especially if you have never experienced the exhilarating atmosphere of Royal Ascot before.2006 welcomes a new era at Ascot Racecourse and a celebration of the new grandstand. Ascot Racecourse is synonymous with quality, style and excellence in providing both unparalleled racing and outstanding hospitality. The focal point of the redevelopment is undoubtedly the new Grandstand itself. The spectacular parasol roof suspended on 'structural trees' defines the distinctive design. The stand is flooded with natural light, bringing the outside in as you walk through the impressive galleria. More than 300,000 people are expected to visit the new grandstand during Royal Ascot week, making this Europe's most popular race meeting. With over £3 million in prize money on offer and a total of seventeen Group races, the quality of the horseracing is simply outstanding.
Diamond Day
The sparkling jewel in Ascot's summer is De Beers Diamond Day - a prestigious sporting and social event,
with £1 million in prize money on offer. The centrepiece on Diamond Day is the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, the most important middle-distance race of the season in the UK. The race is a showdown of champion horses, if you aren't able to attend Royal Ascot, come to Diamond Day - the best raceday in the UK during the summer months.September Saturday
