The Edinburgh International Festival was first established in 1947 to enrich the cultural life of Europe, as well as to provide tourism revenue for Scotland.

More than half a century later, the Edinburgh Internation Festival is still going strong, and has been joined by many other Edinburgh Festivals - most famously the "Edinburgh Festival Fringe", but also the Book Festival, Science Festival and more.
