The Yorkshire Museum houses some of the finest collections of archaeological finds in Europe, spanning Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Medieval times. Experience the history of York and marvel at Roman sculpture, impressive mosaics, elegant jewellery and even household items exhibited in a recreated Roman kitchen.

The world Famous Middleham Jewel

This example of English Gothic jewellery is on display in the Medieval Gallery. The Middleham Jewel, a gold pendant adorned with a magnificent sapphire, was found in 1985, not far from Middleham Castle, once the home of King Richard III.

St. Mary's Abbey and Medieval Yorkshire

The Yorkshire Museum is set in the beautiful Museum Gardens in the heart of York, and part of York's Roman city wall runs through these stunning botanical gardens. At the heart of the Museum lies the majestic ruin of the Medieval St. Mary's Abbey, once one of the most wealthy and powerful abbeys in the north.

Group bookings and school groups welcome. Group rates are available. York residents are entitled to free entry to the museum on presentation of a York Card.

Directions
By Road: A regular Park and Ride service operates from three sites near the A64, A19, A1079 and A166 roads into York. There are also three car parks within a short walk of the Yorkshire Museum.
By Rail: The Museum is just a short walk from York station. Follow the signs to City centre.
By Bus: Buses to York city centre run regularly from the surrounding areas. There are four Park and Ride sites located on main routes into the city centre.
