A short stroll from the town centre, the Art Gallery is housed in an attractive late Victorian town-house with a lovely secluded garden, that is open to the public. Significant early works by the highly acclaimed locally born sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, and important work by other major British modern artists, form the core of this collection. Many paintings from other periods and European schools are also on display. There is a lively programme of changing displays, exhibitions and events, from lectures on art for people of all ages to children's summer 'fun' days, as well as all the continuing activities, talks, demonstrations and special events organised with schools and colleges for children and adults.
The building has ramped access to the ground floor of the gallery. There is on street parking nearby.
