The Border Galleries
These superb displays tell the story of Carlisle, Cumbria and the Borders from prehistory onwards. You can amble down a Roman Street, stand under the stars with the spectacular wildlife and landscapes of Cumbria all around, or sit in an
Edwardian railway carriage it's amazing how far you can travel through time and space when its brought so vividly to life. This tranquil part of the museum is a 17th century house, with beautifully preserved original features. Inside the panelled room you'll find our
unique collection of Pre-Raphaelite drawings and paintings. A wealth of other items from our Fine and Decorative Arts collections are displayed throughout, including porcelain from the famous Williamson collection. Old Tullie House also contains a Gallery of Childhood concentrating on the Victorian and Edwardian eras - always an eye-opener for younger visitors.Additional Information:
