Shambellie House is a beautiful Victorian country house, set in attractive wooded grounds. It contains costume from the 1850's to the 1950's displayed in period room settings.
Celebrated Scottish architect David Bryce designed Shambellie House for the Stewart family in 1856. In 1977 Charles Stewart gave the house and his unique collection of costumes
to the National Museums of Scotland. Visitors can see much more than the costumes. Paintings, furnishings, decoration, ceramics and other items common to houses of the time are also on display, in natural settings.
A range of educational activities are available including Victorian School Lessons, Drama Workshops and Victorian Craft Workshops. Children's workshops are
held in the holiday period, they tend to have a costume, textile or Victorian theme.
