In 1968 Rozelle House, with none of its historic interior remaining, was gifted to the Royal Burgh of Ayr. This lead to its establishment as the Council's Museum and Art Gallery. Between 1975-76 the servants' quarters and stable block were converted into the Maclaurin Galleries with funds from the bequest of Mrs Mary Ellen Maclaurin.
Rozelle House is now a major display venue, currently showing the significant collection, Tam O' Shanter - a series of 54 paintings, by Alexander Goudie. The exhibition also includes a labelled guide for children (this children's guide is used in teaching throughout South Ayrshire schools). There are also a number of art workshops and classes held at Rozelle which are open to people of all abilities. Bookings for workshops must be done through reception at Rozelle House before attending.
In addition to this, Rozelle House is home to the Ayrshire Yeomanry museum, Rozelle Craft Shop and Rozelle Tearoom. All 3 of these are open to the public during normal opening hours for Rozelle House and the Maclaurin Galleries.
The Maclaurin Galleries consists of 4 galleries, which are attached via corridors to Rozelle House. This collection includes paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints acquired by commission or purchased from artists or art dealers. The emphasis is on the modern period, loosely defined as 1900 -1990. The collection also includes a small body of work from the 19th Century which was previously in the possession of the owners of Rozelle House. A smaller collection of children's work also exists, it consists of the award winning works from the Maclaurin Art Competition.
