Rockingham Castle

Rockingham
Market Harborough
Leicester
LE16 8TH

Overlooking the beautiful Welland Valley and offering fine views over five counties visitors will immediately understand why William the Conqueror ordered this fascinating Norman Castle to be built here following his invasion of Britain in 1066.

Visited by many Kings of England right through to the Medieval and Tudor periods, the castle underwent many changes and improvements until abandoned by Henry V11 in 1485.

The Castle was subsequently bought by the Watson family and has remained in the family to the present day with various restorations and improvements throughout its history.

The gardens extend to around 18 acres - the formal gardens surrounding the Castle, which includes it's famous Elephant Yew Hedge reputedly 450 years old and the Wild Garden which houses a remarkable collection of fascinating plants and trees.

Walker's House Tea Room with waitress service, serve a delicious selection of hot and cold light lunches and afternoon teas. Picnic tables are available in the grounds.

The Gift Shop is stocked with a carefully selected range of distinctive items, including jewellery, cards, porcelain, toys and games, gardening items and much more.

With special events throughout the year as well as our specific opening days there is plenty of interest for all ages and fun for the family. Details can be found on our website.
