AboutBritain.com doubles in size with launch of new content

3rd August 2000

AboutBritain.com - already one of the most content-packed British travel web sites, has just launched a major expansion - doubling the size of the site overnight.

Over 500 British towns, cities and villages have been added to the site as well as more than 200 new tourist attractions from around the country - everything from theme parks to castles. All include the unique AboutBritain.com "nearby" facility, which helps people maximise their time by showing the nearest places of interest.

Director Quenton Fyfe said "We are excited about this update, and feel it will provide a great enhancement to AboutBritain.com. It reaffirms our leadership position amongst British Tourism web sites, and shows our commitment to creating a fascinating, informative site that is required viewing for people planning holidays or days out in Britain."

AboutBritain.com - Background

AboutBritain.com was launched on the 24th May 1999 by Excelsior Information Systems Limited. Since then it has shown phenomenal growth, with the number of visitors increasing dramatically as word spreads. The most popular pages are currently the main London tourist attractions, such as Big Ben, the Millennium Dome and the Tower of London, and anything to do with castles!

AboutBritain.com took around 6 months to design, develop and write, and now incorporates information on over 700 tourist attractions, 500 British Towns and over 100 hotels. New attractions and features are added regularly.

About Excelsior Information Systems Limited

Excelsior Information Systems Limited, established in 1991, is a software company which specialises in Internet-related technologies.

20 months ago the founders of Excelsior, Quenton Fyfe & Clare Ivatt, realised that they didn't need to spend 4 hours a day in traffic jams - they could work effectively from home, and home could be anywhere in the world, thanks to telecommunications and the Internet. So they "sold up" and moved to a neglected baronial mansion in the Scottish Borders. The house has seen better days, so when they're not working on AboutBritain.com, Quenton & Clare can be found submerged in renovation plans.
