Knaresborough's royal castle stands towering over the River Nidd, a symbol of the wealth and authority of Medieval Kings. Visit the Keep, the mysterious underground sallyport, and step back into an original Tudor Courtroom in the Castle's Old Courthouse Museum to discover the legends and characters of this medieval town. What was life like during the Civil War?

One gallery shows home life and conflict during the Civil War, including the linen shirt Sir Henry Slingsby wore to the Gallows.

Another hands-on gallery lets you discover all about Life in a Castle. Try on costume, play medieval games and have a go at brass rubbings.

There is also a trail to follow around the Castle site to help you discover all Knaresborough's secrets!

The Castle site is accessible for wheelchairs, although access to the historic buildings is very limited. Four parking spaces are reserved for people with disabilities.
