The City Museum is housed in the former Town Hall, built in 1781-3 to the design of Major Jarrett and Thomas Harrison. The Museum was founded in
1923 and its displays illustrate the history and archaeology of the county town of Lancaster and the most northerly and rural part of Lancashire.
