A stronghold of Medieval Kings, Knaresborough Castle still stands towering above the River Nidd. Explore the Castle independently or join a tour to discover the history of the Keep, dungeon and mysterious underground sallyport.
What was life like during the Civil War? - Find out about home life and conflict during the Civil War, including the linen shirt Sir Henry Slingsby wore to the Gallows.
There's also plenty to do in our hands-on Life in a Castle gallery where
you can play Medieval games and try on costume.
Visit the Museum to find an original Tudor courtroom and learn more of Knaresborough's interesting history. Activities for younger visitors include a Castle trail, Civil War costumes, discovery box and various events and activities during the year.
'New 'Life in a Castle' gallery is designed especially for family groups and includes brass rubbings to try and replica medieval costume'.
The Castle site is accessible for wheelchairs but there is limited access to the historic buildings.
