This charming house, once two regency cottages, was the home of romantic poet John Keats from 1818 until 1820. During this period he wrote some of his finest poetry including 'Ode to a Nightingale' which was written in the surrounding garden. The house contains books, manuscripts and memorabilia associated with Keats, his fiancee Fanny Brawne and his circle of friends.
Keats House has no refreshment facilities but there are a number of cafes and pubs nearby. There is a small bookshop. Parking in this area is very limited.
Guided tours
Tours of the house take place regularly - no booking is necessary. Please book Group visits in advance and tours can be arranged for you. There are discounts in admission charges for groups of over 10 or more visitors - please contact us for more details. Evening events incur a separate charge.
Accessibility
The garden has step-free access. Admission to the house is via the ground floor rear entrance, where the shop is also located.There are public toilets with disabled access and baby-changing facilities available at ground floor level. There is wheelchair access to the ground floor of the house only. Exhibitions and displays continue both in the basement and on the first floor.
