Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery is an award winning museum whose design is based on the original Victorian bandstand. It is positioned on an elevated site in the magnificent Victorian Candie Gardens and the Museum gift shop and Café Victoria have delightful views overlooking St. Peter Port and the sea.
The Museum houses a permanent art collection and an Exhibition Gallery that houses a wide range of temporary exhibitions. The 'Story of Guernsey' is a permanent exhibition which encapsulates some of the major factors that formed the development of the island and its people.
The first gallery offers a glimpse into the background to the collection by introducing the visitor to Frederick Corbin Lukis. A pioneer archaeologist and antiquarian, items bequeathed by Lukis and other 19th century collectors form the basis of the collection.
The main gallery takes the visitor through the story of Guernsey from Neolithic times to the 20th century and includes a section on the geology, flora and fauna of the island.
