Glenkinchie Distillery |

|
Glenkinchie distillery, like so many others, was founded by farmers and is situated in a quiet hollow, surrounded by the fields which supply the barley for malting on site. Being so close to Auld Reekie, as Edinburgh is sometimes known, there are tens of thousands of visitors looking round every year. Set in rolling countryside perfect for growing barley, but a mere 15 miles from Edinburgh, Glenkinchie distillery was well placed to survive when recession closed many Lowland distilleries.
Distilling at Glenkinchie started in 1837, the distillery was reconstructed in the 1890s as a model Victorian operation, complete with houses for workers. A bowling green, which survives to the present day, was added in 1920.
After seeing the largest pot stills in Scotland, visitors usually end their tour in the well-stocked bar area where they enjoy a dram of 10-year-old single malt.
