Glansevern Hall |

|
Glansevern Hall was built in Greek Revival style 200 years ago. It is romantically positioned on the River Severn and the gardens extend over 18 acres. There is a gentle walk from the gardens to the river edge, where a bird-watching hide awaits the garden visitor. The gardens are noted for their collection of unusual trees, many in a lakeside setting.
The path around the lake passes through mixed woodland, under planted with flowering shrubs. Ornamental shelters provide resting places on the way. The lakeside walk passes through a water garden profusely planted with Bergenias, Hostas, Candelabra Primulas and other water-loving plants. An iron footbridge crosses the upper end of the lake, offering views down the entire length of the
open water
Closer to the house are formal lawns, herbaceous beds and borders. An ornamental fountain is enclosed by a pergola, festooned with Wisteria and other climbing plants. In front of the house is a long pond enclosed by shrubs and yew hedges. The huge rock garden and the grotto passing beneath it are a Victorian extravaganza dating from about 1840 and a small orangery dates from the same period.
The walled garden was entirely remodelled during 2001. It is a garden of secluded corners and secret places. In the main courtyard leading into this garden plants are for sale. The tour starts and finishes in a large courtyard with fountain and central flower bed. In the old stables bordering the yard are the Tea Room and the Garden Shop.

Andrew Logan Museum of Sculpture
(1 Mile)*
Andrew Logan's work is of popular poetry and metropolitan glamour. It is an art which resounds with the exuberant excess of a Busby Berkeley musical. ALMS is currently the only museum in the country dedicated to a living artist. |
|
Powysland Museum
(4 Miles)*
The groundfloor displays illustrate the history and development of life in Montgomeryshire from the earliest prehistoric settlers to the 20th century population. |
|
Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway
(6 Miles)*
The railway was opened in 1903 to link the rural communities to the market town of Welshpool. The gauge of 2 ft 6 inches allowed for tight curves and steep gradients following the contours of the countryside. |
