York's premier historic house museum is home for the famous Noel Terry Collection of English 18th Century furniture and clocks.
Saved from near collapse and restored to its former glory by York Civic Trust in 1984, it now enjoys a reputation as one of the most distinguished town houses in Britain. Designed by John Carr of York, this architectural masterpiece typifies the best of mid-18th century rococo decoration.
Annual exhibitions in the period rooms bring the house to life in a very tangible way. Each winter, a unique 'Keeping of Christmas' exhibition from 3rd December to 6th January re-creates an 18th century Christmas in great detail.
