Compton Castle |

This dramatic fortified manor house, a rare restored survivor of medieval England was built by the Gilbert family between 1340-1480, and is still their home today.
It was home to Sir Humphrey Gilbert, coloniser of Newfoundland and half-brother to Sir Walter Raleigh.
Within the curtain wall can be seen the reconstructed great hall, old kitchen with spiral staircase, solar and chapel. Rose garden and knot garden.
