Cartmel Racecourse is based in one of the prettiest villages in England, in the south of the Lake District. Very little has changed in Cartmel over the years and horseracing has taken place on the famous racecourse since 1856, even earlier in some record books. At times when the races are not being held, the racecourse is simply rural land and it is hard to picture racehorses hurtling around the challenging racecourse with the carnival atmosphere bellowing away in the background.

Village life in Cartmel, with the historic 12th century Priory a centre piece, is still admired by its many visitors, from sampling the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding at the local village store, to having a drink in one of Cartmel's many quaint pubs and watching the world go by. The pace of life is leisurely in the village and racing follows the same principles.

There are two types of admission badges at Cartmel - Paddock Enclosure and Course Enclosure. These badges operate for every Cartmel meeting (except Barbecue Raceday where admission is access to all public areas).

Paddock Enclosure:

The Paddock Enclosure contains the Grandstand and Paddock, Parade Ring/Winner's Enclosure, Marquee Village and the Louis Roederer Restaurant . The main racecourse office is also located in this Enclosure. Holders of a Paddock Enclosure badge can move freely over to the Course Enclosure at the track crossing point. Crossing is not permitted while horses are on the course.

Course Enclosure:

The Course Enclosure is situated on the opposite side of the finishing straight from the Paddock. The main features of this Enclosure are the fairground, trade stands and market stalls. Transfers are possible to the Paddock Enclosure at the track crossing point if you are in receipt of a Paddock badge or upgrade badge.

Badges can be purchased in advance at any time at the discounted rate.
