The Atkinson Art Gallery closed at midday on Thursday 24 December 2009. The gallery will be closed for three years for a major transformation as part of the Southport Cultural Centre. You can contact gallery staff using the 'contact us' page of their website.

The permanent collection at the Atkinson Art Gallery includes nineteenth and twentieth century watercolours, as well as Victorian and twentieth century oil paintings. Exhibitions from the permanent collection are regularly shown.

The Gallery also has a temporary exhibition programme, providing an opportunity for visitors to see touring exhibitions and work by practicing contemporary artists. Every month the Gallery spotlights a work of art from its collection. A free talk about the artist and the work is given at the Gallery.
